Roger has been photographing for over 45 years and his main passions are the natural world, its landscape, people and the fauna and flora. He also enjoys many other branches of photography from sports to architecture. Since 1995, travel has been taking up a major part of his photography and with his specialist photographic travel company Photoventures he has had the opportunity to explore and photograph many locations throughout the world and in particular the United States.

He has been able to bring the results of his photography to people throughout the United Kingdom and overseas with a comprehensive array of lectures. In more than 45 years as an active photographer he has delivered well over 2,500 lectures worldwide. In addition to this he has been privileged to judge many competitions including many of the International and National Exhibitions held in Great Britain.

In 1984 he was awarded an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society in the Pictorial Division with a panel of colour transparencies, in 1985 he was awarded his second Associate in the Pictorial Division with a panel of colour prints. In 1986 he achieved the Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in the Applied Division with a panel of colour prints and in 2000, Roger was awarded a second Fellowship in the Pictorial Division, again with a panel of colour prints. In 1996 he received the Award for Photographic Merit from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain for services to photography. In 1996 he was the second person to be awarded the Associate of the British Photographic Exhibitions and in 1998 was the first person to be made a Fellow of the British Photographic Exhibitions and held the only fellowship until the second was awarded in 2001.

Roger has been a prolific exhibitor for over 40 years both nationally and internationally and has achieved well in excess of 4,000 acceptances in Great Britain and abroad. In the process he has achieved over 900 awards, which amongst them include many PSA, FIAP and PAGB medals. In 1999 he was elected to become a member of the London Salon of Pictorial Photography, later becoming the Chairman.

Roger has served on the Royal Photographic Society Distinctions assessment panel for over two decades, firstly as a member of the Licentiate Panel. In 1998 he was made a member of the Applied Panel and in 2001 became Chair of the inaugural Travel Panel. Roger also chaired the Nature Panel between 2006 and 2008. He became a member of the Royal Photographic Society Distinctions Advisory Board in 2007 and was Chair from 2011 to 17. He served as a Council member of the Royal Photographic Society from 1993 to 2002, Vice President between 2002 and 2003 and was President from 2003 to 2005.

Roger’s photographs have been successful in many prestigious competitions as well as being extensively published. Roger won Best Slide in the first Condor International Bird Competition in 1987 with “Arctic Tern in flight”. He had two of his images accepted for the first Canon Camera Calendar in 1990 winning the winter section, the only photographer to ever have more than one acceptance in a single year. Roger has had many images published in the Photography Year Books, with his image "Sunflower" on the front cover of the 1990 edition. Many of his images have been used in other publications including Ron Spillman’s "The Complete Photographer" published by Fountain Press.

In 2000 he was awarded a 'Judges Medal' at the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain National Colour Slide Championship with "White Sands Evening". In 2001 he won the Best Slide in the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain National Colour Slide Championship with "Winter Tree, Hayden Valley".
